How Long Should We Live?

Cambridge University geneticist Aubrey de Grey has famously stated, “The first person to live to be 1,000 years old is certainly alive today …whether they realize it or not, barring accidents and suicide, most people now 40 years or younger can expect to live for centuries.”

So now that we have the tools of the genome in our sights, people are already playing god deciding who will be around long enough to be a god. Kinda of crazy really, thousand years should not really be that long for any human im sure one would do great good in that time. Or some will keep this life extension technology for themselfs and maybe do a lot of bad. It brings up many Questions, what do you think?
The Isis Super Eye
“The world’s newest “super microscope” is fired up and ready to go.
The £200m second target station at Isis in Oxfordshire will allow scientists to see things 10,000 times thinner than a human hair.
The machine is known as a pulsed neutron source. But what does that actually mean?
Well, if you’re a physicist curious to see how matter behaves when no-one is looking, then Isis is your private snoop.
If you’re an engineer trying to make the hydrogen car a working reality, then Isis is your genie.”

All theses science projects with names (and even philosophy) of ancient world Gods? I want know who picks these names, ‘Isis is your genie’ what are they trying to say here? CERN has a Shiva statue as its face, the SETI project is not going to tell me that they did not happen to be looking at Egyptian texts when they came up with that name.

The Mysterious Coral Castle
![]()
In the city of Homestead, Florida sits a strange stone structure created by eccentric Edward Leedskalnin. No one really knows why it was built or how, but considering each of the megalithic coral stones weigh more than most men could move alone, the emergence of the Coral Castle remains an impressive mystery.
Edward never allowed anyone to witness the building of Coral Castle. A suspicious and private man, he worked at night by lantern, behind large walls he constructed. Reports from neighbors claim he levitated the blocks, some weighing 30 tons, twice the weight of the largest blocks in the Great Pyramid of Giza.

This is a huge subject regarding the mystery of the construction techniques used, Christopher Dunn made an excellent study on the castle for further reading on the matter.

Joe Rogan funny as hell and interesting views as usual.
Four Track Audio Recorder for iPhone, iPod Touch

Audio geeks and songwriters have another tool at their disposal: FourTrack, a well-designed app for the iPhone or iPod Touch that records, mixes and plays up to four tracks like a shrunken version of Pro Tools. There’s no way it’ll replace your main recording setup, but then again, you can’t put your main recording setup in your pocket.
FourTrack (iTunes link) is the work of Sonoma Wire Works, makers of the desktop recording software RiffWorks, and The Retronyms, makers of Recorder, the top-selling (single-track) recording software in the App Store. After a few days of pre-release testing, we can safely say that this is a solid, functional app that justifies its $10 price for musicians and anyone else who messes around with audio despite — or perhaps because of — its rudimentary, four-track-like functionality.

Very useful for recording on the road!
Secret Worlds: The Universe Within
View the Milky Way at 10 million light years from the Earth. Then move through space towards the Earth in successive orders of magnitude until you reach a tall oak tree just outside the buildings of the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Tallahassee, Florida. After that, begin to move from the actual size of a leaf into a microscopic world that reveals leaf cell walls, the cell nucleus, chromatin, DNA and finally, into the subatomic universe of electrons and protons.

Apple Researching Virtual Reality Headsets

Apple suggests that by detecting the user’s movements, the image could be adjusted accordingly:
For example, the device may detect a user’s head movement and cause the portion of media displayed to reflect the head movement.
Apple even makes the point that they could take the realism so far as adding theatre surroundings, adjusting sound effects based on the user’s “seat” and even adding outlines of other patrons sitting in the theatre.
It’s not unusual for Apple’s patent applications explore novel concepts but Apple has published previous patents related to similar headsets.
